Hi everybody, in the times of Covid-19 we are locked in our own houses and sulking for refreshment literally every 20 minutes, Soojit Sarkar releases his film Gulabo Sitabo on Amazon Prime.

A satire set in the beautiful city of Lucknow showcases the story of Chunnan Mirza Nawab (Amitabh Bachchan) and his tenant Baankey Rastogi (Ayushmaan Khurrana).

The story is based on Mirza’s greed for his wife’s mansion (Fatima Mahal) and how he harasses and nags his tenant Baankey for paying his 3-month rent, leading into a tom and jerry comedy until the archeology department intervenes and shows Baankey a dream of a better future.

A Behind the Scene Documentary from the Shooting of the film.

This leads to an outside court-room drama and the struggle both the parties go through for the house. The film ends with a twist that keeps us in awe which makes it memorable.

Screenplay writer Juhi Chaturvedi excellently layers each character making the film look real. Each character is given a wide room for performing and the end result makes Gulabo Sitabo an enjoyable film.

The frames of the film speak for themselves and so does the detailing done by the makeup and costume department.

The beauty of Lucknow even in ruins is captured beautifully making sure it blends well with the quirky background score of the film. Supporting actors like Farrukh Jaffer, Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala, and Shrishti Srivastav shine out in their performances and are proven a good casting choice.

This film is lively and keeps us curious until the climax, it makes us think about the outcomes that each scenario could take us to and when we sit down tired and exhausted with no answer it eases us in and gives us a reality check on who we are siding with and shows us the bigger picture.

I am sure by the end of the film you will laugh out on how stupid the two, fighting for the mansion were and how stupid was it for you to side with one. A film that made my lockdown stress worth a day off. Do watch it!
